Just some interesting information about
my bush trailer.
In 2009, I looked at a bush trailer and
couldn't find one that fit my pocket. I was interested in Venter's
Bushbaby, which was a basic white with large tires and a roof rack.
The price at that point was already R30 000. I contacted Frik Venter
in Naboomspruit who owned the Venter / Challenger. Plans were
exchanged for a few months. I also left his powder coat plant for the
brown color. After all, he made only white trailers.
The bush trailer was a huge success! He
asked me to show the trailer in 2010 at the Rand show. He got a lot
of interest because of the show. He contacted me to hear if I would
object to the manufacture and color of the trailer. Of course, I had no
objection and asked him mount additional items to the wagon at their
cost. All the extras like the tent, stove gas bottle, axes, spade,
canvas cases, braai grill were then given to me.
A few months later, the brown holiday
trailers and bush trailers took the market and Makro, Builders
Warehouse and Game sold them on behalf of Venter / Challenger. Of
course, they cut costs with the additional items, a lighter service
than and cheaper tires and standard tow hitch.
I
tell this story for many campers who ask me about the bush trailer.
Then I tell to them that this was the original first version of which
I have the build plans and build quotations. The trailer cost me over
R50 000.00 in total and gives me great pleasure. Every year I do
something extra to the trailer to make it convenient for me.
